We’ve all been there— knocked down by life’s disappointments. Including ME! I must have written Oprah close to 100 times before I received a phone call from a producer named Megan who interviewed me over the phone to be an Oprah guest.
I guess I didn’t do too well in my interview, because I never received a call back. This was around 2009/2010 when the Oprah show was going into it’s last season, so I just knew I blew my last chance to appear on her show. Then, a few months later, I began getting these e-mails from strangers asking how I could help them heal.
As many of already know, in my spare time, I am a staunch anti-sexual abuse advocate, having developed the only international online support group for African-American sexual abuse survivors. When I asked one of the e-mailers where they received my contact information, he said from the Oprah site. During her last season, Oprah did a show on men who had been sexually abused as children, and Oprah.com listed my site as part of the “Oprah Sexual Assault Resource Center!"
My point is, NEVER give up! Many of us give up because our dream hasn’t been validated by those of strong influence, or because we’ve yet to produce steady cash flow from our dream. Just because the money may not be coming in the way you want, don’t give up! Remember, before the famous were famous, they had MANY failures before their big break! Check out the above image and use their lessons whenever you need inspiration.
