When you don't pursue your passion (purpose), it creates an almost addictive, unhealthy dependency on other areas of your life (relationships, food, heavy TV watching, etc) that REPEATEDLY fail to fill you up. Yet, many continue to
consume the wrong things in even larger quantities hoping
it will fill the void of not pursuing your purpose.
Sometimes this will manifest as depression,
experiencing periodic low level joy only to crash back down to where you were. SUSTAINED joy becomes seemingly
unattainable because the "lows" start to outweigh the "hi's."
What’s one thing that you can do TODAY to motivate yourself toward pursuing your passion? If you’re stumped, here are some tips to get you going:
-Read an inspirational article from an online business magazine like "Forbes."
-Watch inspiring business documentaries. I suggest “The Men Who Built America.” It’s a fascinating docu-movie from the History channel on Carnegie, Rockefeller, Ford, etc. Though each of these figures were quite controversial, it shows a balanced portrayal of their pros & cons, and how they overcame major setbacks.
-Check out “Shark Tank.” My creative juices always start to flow after watching an aspiring entrepreneur do a business pitch. Also check out "Bloomberg's Game Changers." You can access both online at anytime.
-Go for a walk or to the gym. May not sound like a "motivator," but exercise is a great way to boost the endorphins (happy hormones), which is a great way to get your mind prepped for working on your passion.
-Be around like-minded people pursuing a similar passion to yours by joining a NEW business
group on Facebook or LinkedIn. Or peruse and post in one that you’re already a part of.
-Take it a step further and set up some phone time to talk with one of the members of your online group. Who knows; you may discover a way to do a joint venture together.
-Sign up to attend a MeetUp group in your area of passion.
